It is a reprieve for residents of Kiamunyi in Nakuru County who have braved water shortages for more than two decades as the Sh50M water project aimed at supplying them with the precious liquid is almost complete.
Governor Lee Kinyanjui announced that the water project being undertaken by the Nakuru Rural Water and Sanitation Company (Naruwasco) is designed to serve over 20,000 residents of upper and lower Kiamunyi.
He said laying of pipes along the nine kilometers stretch from a borehole in Kerma area, Njoro to Baraka Estate in Kiamunyi has been finalised adding the County has also erected a 225 cubic Meter Tank within Menengai West Ward that will aid in storage and distribution of water to the households.
He noted that Kiamunyi water provision is part of the 50 solarised water projects that have been completed in all the 11 Sub counties to address water shortage in the region.
Meanwhile, the Chemususu dam in the neighbouring Baringo County that is also going to be used as a reservoir for the Kiamunyi residents is nearing completion.
Chemususu dam was supposed to be completed in 2020 but was delayed as a result of Covid-19 pandemic outbreak.
According to the Governor, Kiamunyi is one of the most preferred place after residential areas by property investors in the cosmopolitan county and is home to the middle and the high classes in the county.
Kinyanjui lamented that despite having the alluring view of the Menengai Crater, potential investors and homeowners are avoiding Kiamunyi due to water shortage.
He said the land prices has remained stagnant at between Sh1.6 and Sh2 million for an eighth of an acre over a long period but the prices are set to increase once water is supplied.
Menengai West MCA Symon Mwangi applauded the Governor noting that since he assumed office, he has initiated projects that directly uplift people’s lives.
