The construction of a Sh9 million Nanyuki Policare centre that is meant to handle Gender Based Violence cases in the region under one stop shop has been completed.
The facility which is of its kind in the region will house forensic experts, medics, counsellors and Judiciary with aim to dispense justice to Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) victims.
“The facility will have forensic investigators, ministry of health, psychosocial support team to attend to these victims. Special magistrates to listen to such cases and deliver justice faster without the survivors being taken to the court,” the commandant Japheth Koome attached to Kiganjo police training campus had said during the ground-breaking ceremony.
The facility which had been constructed through joint efforts from British Army Training Unit (BATUK), Re-invent Kenya and National Police Service will serve the counties of Samburu, Isiolo and Meru.
Policare board chairman, Daniel Wathome, equated the facility with Huduma Centre where government services are all offered under one roof. Nanyuki Policare will become the second in the country after the Makueni policare unit.
The National Police Service is hopeful to construct policares across the country with the aim to address GBV cases. The Nanyuki policare is expected to open its doors to clients in weeks’ time.
