Public Interns Deployed To Construction Sites In Nyamira

Nyamira: Some 73 interns employed by the Public Service Commission, under the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP) cohort 1 in Nyamira County, have successfully been deployed to various construction sites within the region.

According to Kenya News Agency, Nyamira County Director of Housing and Urban Development, Boaz Mireri, confirmed that the county is constructing affordable residential houses, affordable accommodation villages in four technical institutions, and modern markets in various recommended locations within the county, where the just-recruited interns have been deployed.

‘In our county, the department of Housing and Urban Development is supervising construction of affordable houses in the Sironga area in Nyamira South sub-county and the Manga area in Manga Sub County,’ Mireri stated. ‘We are at the same time supervising construction of state-of-the-art affordable hostel villages in three Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) institutions and one at Kenya Medical Training College,’ he added.

Mireri elaborated that a total of 73 interns have been deployed across seven construction sites within the county, which are at various construction stages. This deployment aims to expose the interns to hands-on skills and practical experience related to various concepts and theories they learned at colleges and universities.

The government initiative to employ interns is timely, Mireri noted, as they will assist site managers in coordinating tasks and providing immediate feedback on construction progress. He emphasized that the interns would be instrumental in preparing detailed daily reports, noting down challenges and hitches for quick intervention by the supervising department.

Mireri further advised all interns to adhere to professional ethics as stipulated by the Public Service Commission (PSC), emphasizing the importance of confidentiality while handling government information. The interns in Nyamira, along with others across all 47 counties, have been deployed on a 12-month nonrenewable contract. This initiative is part of efforts to fast-track daily updates on infrastructure projects in line with the President’s blueprint, the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
