PSC Begins TVET Trainer Interviews Across Northrift Region

Eldoret: The Public Service Commission (PSC) has commenced Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) trainer interviews for candidates shortlisted for the 1,000 vacancies recently advertised across the Northrift region. Speaking on behalf of the Commission Chairperson during the launch of the exercise at Eldoret National Polytechnic, PSC Deputy Commission Secretary (DCS) in charge of Legal Services, Jacqueline Manani, emphasised the commission’s role in ensuring a fair, transparent, and merit-based recruitment process within the public service.

According to Kenya News Agency, the candidates were selected based on competence in technical areas including Engineering, ICT, Hospitality, and other vocational disciplines. Manani noted that this exercise represents the second phase of recruitment for the financial year and stressed that upholding transparency and accountability is key to maintaining integrity in the process. “Competition and merit will be considered alongside factors such as ethnicity, gender, persons with disability, and minority or marginalised groups,” explained DCS Manani.

Manani guided all participants and interview panel members through the interview protocols to ensure a smooth and effective process. She clarified roles, noting that the chairperson of the panel will oversee human resource matters, while subject specialists provide technical advice. The secretary of the panel, typically the principal of the hosting institution, will manage documentation, scheduling, and reporting of outcomes. Interview questions will cover candidates’ respective technical fields, with agreed-upon scoring criteria discussed by the panel prior to commencement.

Each candidate must achieve a minimum pass mark of 60 percent to be considered for appointment. For fairness and inclusivity, all candidates, regardless of gender, ethnicity, home county, or disability status, will receive equal opportunity. In cases of ties, affirmative action may be applied and recorded accordingly. Candidates are required to present original academic certificates. Exemptions are granted for those awaiting final certificates, but they must submit them before onboarding.

Manani also raised concerns about certificate authenticity, urging human resource departments to verify qualifications directly with issuing institutions before hiring. Eldoret National Polytechnic Chief Principal Dr Charles Koech welcomed all institutions conducting interviews at the facility and reminded candidates to observe proper interview etiquette to ensure a smooth and successful process.
