Kirinyaga: Public Health and Professional Standards Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni has called on leaders in Kirinyaga County to refrain from injecting politics into national government development projects in the area. Speaking at a church service at St. Mary’s Consolata Mbiri Church in Gichugu, PS Muthoni stressed that nearly all previously stalled projects have resumed, with the government dedicated to their completion. She warned that ongoing political interference could hinder progress.
According to Kenya News Agency, key projects in the county include road construction, last-mile electricity connectivity, construction of modern markets, and affordable housing initiatives. PS Muthoni highlighted the transformative effects of the affordable housing project in Kianyaga, noting its positive impact on local business and economic activity. She emphasized the potential for additional development projects to further rejuvenate the town.
PS Muthoni distanced herself from recent political disputes, reaffirming her commitment to promoting government initiatives that benefit the public. “As a Principal Secretary, I am focused on delivering development to all Kenyans, and I will continue to advocate for projects that improve lives,” she stated. Her comments come amid growing tensions among local politicians over the proposed site for a new Kenya Medical Training College in the county, with differing opinions on whether it should be located near Kerugoya Referral Hospital in Kirinyaga Central or adjacent to Kianyaga Level 4 Hospital in Gichugu.
