Nyamache: State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications Principal Secretary Stephen Isaboke has launched a comprehensive Sh 62 million infrastructure modernization project at Bogesaka D.O.K. Primary and Junior Secondary School in Nyamache Sub-County, Kisii County. The event marked a deeply personal milestone for the Principal Secretary, who is an alumnus of the institution.

According to Kenya News Agency, the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction works highlighted a multi-million-shilling investment supported by M-PESA Foundation. The initiative aims to completely overhaul the school’s aging infrastructure and transform it into a state-of-the-art academic hub. PS Isaboke expressed personal significance in returning to his former school, emphasizing the importance of laying a stronger foundation for future generations.

Isaboke outlined that the project will include constructing new classrooms, science, and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) laboratories, among other facilities. This development is set to enhance digital skills among students and the community. The Principal Secretary commended the MPESA Foundation for its educational infrastructure upgrade program, noting its role in bridging the digital divide and promoting safe learning environments.

He further stated that the project aligns with the national government’s strategic development frameworks under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). This initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to actualizing BETA at the grassroots level, ensuring digital and creative economies are accessible to rural youth.

Mpesa Foundation’s Project Manager Eng. Zachary Hamptons explained that the initiative is part of the foundation’s ‘Citizens of the Future’ program. It focuses on improving the school’s infrastructure by constructing and equipping classrooms, modern laboratories, a kitchen, and ablution facilities. Hamptons emphasized the shift from traditional infrastructure to digital advancements, such as fiber-optic internet and digital labs, to integrate the digital economy into the education system.

The partnership will also provide new furniture, specialized laboratory apparatus, and advanced ICT equipment to ensure the functionality of new structures. Robust internet connectivity will be installed to integrate digital learning into the curriculum, creating a safe, technologically advanced learning environment.

Construction is underway, with the project scheduled for completion by January 2027. Local education officials and project partners anticipate that the new facilities will address critical infrastructure deficits, granting students access to necessary resources for competitive academic performance. The initiative ultimately aims to bridge the digital divide for rural learners, offering a modern environment for students in Kisii County to pursue their dreams.
