PS Isaboke Advocates for Tech Integration to Boost Security in Institutions

Kisii: State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications Principal Secretary, Stephen Isaboke, has emphasized the critical need to adopt technology to bolster security across various institutions, including educational facilities, healthcare centers, and business establishments.

According to Kenya News Agency, Isaboke, speaking at Borangi SDA Senior School in Nyamache Sub County, Kisii County, highlighted the importance of utilizing internet resources, such as the government’s free Wi-Fi, to secure infrastructures effectively. He cited the recent tragic fire incident at Utumishi Girls Academy as a call to action for deploying Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) systems in learning institutions to prevent unrest and enhance safety.

Isaboke pointed out that this initiative is part of the Ministry’s broader Digital Superhighway agenda, which aims to integrate technology into public institutions. He reiterated the government’s commitment to laying 100,000 kilometers of high-speed fibre optic cables nationwide by 2027, with 45,000 kilometres already completed.

The Principal Secretary advised residents to use digital facilities productively, cautioning against the misuse of the internet for spreading misinformation or engaging in cybercrime. His comments come in the wake of a tragic event where 16 students lost their lives, and 79 others were injured, sparking discussions on the adherence to the School Safety Manual by the Ministry of Education.

During the school’s Education Day, Isaboke also presided over the awarding of last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education candidates for their outstanding performance. He urged students to build strong character, respect their teachers, and remain focused on their goals despite challenges, emphasizing that success comes through persistence.

Furthermore, Isaboke encouraged students to uphold high discipline standards and nurture their talents to maintain the school’s model of excellence, ensuring that every student realizes their potential.

Later, the Principal Secretary inspected the ongoing construction at Kionyo Health Centre in Masige East ward. The upgraded facility is expected to provide inpatient services and a broader range of essential healthcare services, enhancing healthcare access for local residents.
