Press Statement: Political Parties Commitment to observe Human Rights during Election Campaign- Agano Party

Meeting with Agano Party
The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights advocates for focus on a human rights compliant campaigns and election processes and has taken to meeting all the four Presidential candidates. It schedules to meet them in the next two weeks subject to their rigorous campaigns.
The Commission met the Agano Party Presidential candidate Mr. David Mwaure Waihiga and his running mate Ms. Ruth Mucheru-Mutua wherein issues of human rights compliance in their campaign was discussed.
The presidential hopeful Mr. Waihiga who is running under the slogan “Badilisha” committed:
• to undertaking a human rights compliant campaign
• to respect human rights
• to uphold the two thirds gender principle
• to undertake a campaign of integrity
• to value the humanness of Kenyans and the rights of Kenyans as human beings
They will respect the rights of Children, women, youth, persons with disability including Intersex persons and to respect all races and all faiths.
They hold themselves as a party of strong values, respect for the rule of law and do not tolerate impunity or corruption.
They undertake to demonstrate ethical leadership and to advocate for peace.
They call upon duty bearers to undertake their respective roles and call upon the IEBC to offer a free, fair and transparent election.
They further urge the security agencies to protect the rights of all especially children and those vulnerable to SGBV during the electoral period.
They request the media for a credible, fair and equal coverage to all presidential candidate.
