President William Ruto has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment in supporting the restoration of peace and sustainable stability in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the region at large.
“Without peace, no country or individual can have the space to prosper,” Ruto said after holding talks with his host, President Felix Tshisekedi of DRC.
In their talks, the two leaders agreed to form a joint committee to elaborate the areas of cooperation focusing on security, trade and investment.
Kenya plays a crucial role as a member of the East African Community in support of the ‘Nairobi Peace Process’ that involves talks between the government of DRC and the armed groups aimed at restoring peace and security in Eastern DRC.
Kenya has sent its troops for a peacekeeping mission in the region as part of the East African Community Regional Force.
Ruto later on Monday embark on a three-day official visit to the Republic of Korea where he will hold bilateral talks with his host, President Yoon Suk-Yeol.
While in Korea, Ruto will explore partnerships in key sectors of the government’s economic transformation agenda including agriculture, energy, infrastructure and public health, with engagements that will culminate to the signing of trade agreements between the two nations.
