Marsabit: The Kenya Medical Supply Authority (KEMSA) has been mandated to maintain a consistent and adequate supply of drugs to public health facilities across Kenya. President Dr. William Ruto emphasized the need for efficiency in the new system of delivering medicines and health commodities directly to hospitals during his speech at the Loglogo Africa Inland Church (AIC) in Marsabit County.

According to Kenya News Agency, President Ruto highlighted that the direct delivery of supplies to health facilities, rather than to county stores, would enhance the reliability of health services under the Universal Health Coverage program. The President, attending celebrations for the church’s 60th anniversary, directed that health facilities should remain well-stocked with drugs at all times. He assured that KEMSA has received adequate funding to fulfill its mandate efficiently.

President Ruto encouraged Kenyans to register with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to access free primary healthcare services, including outpatient services at various hospitals. He also urged eligible individuals to take advantage of the government’s removal of extra ID vetting requirements in border counties to acquire national identity cards, describing the previous practice as discriminatory.

The President mentioned the necessity of a National Infrastructure Fund to meet the increasing demand for infrastructure development, such as roads, stating that Sh1.5 trillion is needed for constructing 10,000 km of new tarmac roads. Additionally, he announced a Sh4.5 billion allocation for projects in Marsabit County, including affordable housing, fresh produce markets, and student hostels, along with Sh1.6 billion for expanding local electricity connections.

President Ruto praised the Church’s role in development and mission work, affirming the government’s commitment to collaborating with religious organizations to address societal challenges. Cabinet Secretary for Internal Security, Kipchumba Murkomen, noted that over 72,000 residents in Marsabit are eligible for ID registration and urged them to utilize the government’s free issuance of documents.

Marsabit Governor Mohamud Ali and other local leaders commended the Ruto Administration for its developmental initiatives, pledging support for the President’s reelection bid due to his transformational leadership and contributions to the county’s and country’s development.
