Nyeri prides itself for being the second home and final resting place to the Scouts’ founder Lord Baden Powell and his wife, Olave.
This has put Nyeri on the World map as an ideal destination for scouting delegations, and it is honoured to be hosting World Parliamentary Scouts Union (WSPU) 2023 Africa Assembly in June this year and the Global Assembly of WSPU to follow suit in 2025.
Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, who is also the Patron of the Scouting Movement in Nyeri County, today hosted the key stakeholders involved in the preparations of this event, who had paid him a courtesy call in his office.
The team comprised members from the (WSPU), Kenya Scouts Association, Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, State Department of Devolution, County Government of Nairobi, and County Government of Nyeri.
The team will be reviewing the venues which will be significant to the event’s success, including the Baden Powell Memorial Park, Paxtu Museum at Outspan, and Kagumo Teachers College, where the event will be held from the 21st to the 24th of June.
Governor Kahiga pledged the County Government’s devotion to making the two world events a resounding success. He further reiterated his commitment to continue collaborating with entities such as WSPU, whose projects and programs aim at promoting scouting tourism in Nyeri County.
The WSPU is an independent Association founded in Korea in 1991 and unites scout-oriented parliamentarians from all over the world to strengthen the scouting movement to promote youth empowerment.
