Police Seize Bhang Worth Over 9 Million In Uasin Gishu

Eldoret: Police in Eldoret have impounded a car transporting bhang worth over Sh 9 million from the Lesos area en route to Nairobi following a tip-off. Eldoret Central Sub-county Police Commander, Zephaniah Kamuren, stated that officers intercepted the car during regular patrol operations after receiving intelligence reports about the shipment of the narcotic drugs.

According to Kenya News Agency, the interception occurred at the Napkoi forest area, where two suspects fled into the forest, abandoning the vehicle. Kamuren reported that efforts to track down the fleeing suspects were not successful, but confirmed that officers recovered the vehicle containing over 180 kgs of bhang.

The vehicle, a Honda model, was towed to Eldoret Police Station. With the assistance of the Anti-Narcotics Unit, officers discovered 182.11 kgs of bhang with a street value of Sh 9.1 million. Kamuren expressed gratitude to citizens for providing information that facilitated the successful operation. He emphasized that the security team remains vigilant to ensure all illicit drugs transported through Uasin Gishu are seized and suspects prosecuted.

Kamuren revealed that initial investigations suggest the intercepted bhang originated from across the Kenyan border with Uganda. He mentioned plans to trace the vehicle’s owner through the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to aid in further investigations.

Uasin Gishu County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) Daniel Muleli confirmed the launch of investigations to apprehend all suspects involved in the illicit trade. Muleli stressed the seriousness of the matter, pledging severe action against those involved and a thorough investigation to determine the vehicle’s owner and the bhang’s origins.
