Religious leaders in Tana River, have held interdenominational prayers for police officers, who will be providing security in the August 9 polls in the county.
Pastor Isaac Magabe from Christian Church International in Hola, said God revealed to him the idea of the interdenominational prayers, before he shared it with the police officers.
“We have had a successful prayer session with all churches in Hola, including our Muslim brothers. We held prayers for our police officers before they undertake the forthcoming election assignment,’’ he said.
Pastor Magabe exuded confidence that the police officers across the country will be safe as they protect lives and property during and after the General Election.
“I believe through the prayers we have made; God will protect our security personnel, as they embark on this very noble assignment,” he said.
The National Police Service, Tana River County Chaplain, Rev. Amon Mwadeghu, said they have prayed for the country, to have a peaceful transition, devoid of any violence.
“I thank God for allowing us to gather some of our Police Officers, their families and members of the community, who were with us in praying for peace in our country, especially as we head towards the election,’’ he said.
Tana North Sub-county Police Commander, Ali Ndiema, said spiritual nourishment is good for the psychological status of police officers.
Ndiema further revealed that all security officers have been advised appropriately on the conduct of the election task ahead of them.
“We have had the opportunity to talk to officers and give advice on how they are supposed to behave and conduct themselves during the entire electioneering period. They need to be firm and conduct the election in accordance with the law and avoid being partisan,” he said.
