Police in Uasin Gishu County are holding three suspects who were arrested in Langas Estate with an assortment of weapons including two AK-47 rifles, 9 rounds of ammunition, 9 arrows and a jungle police uniform.
According to Uasin Gishu County Police commander Ayub Ali Gitonga the arrest was a result of intelligence reports from investigative agencies in conjunction with members of the public.
Ali says the three might be part of a car theft syndicate since several fake number plates and log books were also found in the house where the suspects lived.
“We have doubled up our efforts during this festive season to make sure we secure our county. The suspects we have in our custody will help unravel some of the unresolved cases of car theft within Uasin Gishu and beyond,” he said.
County Commissioner Edyson Nyale believes the syndicate has a specific number of vehicles they target for theft while masquerading as police officers with ammunition whose serial numbers he says have been tampered with.
“One of the suspects had a fake police identification card which means these individuals impersonate police officers when committing crimes. The court has allowed us 14 days to finish our investigation and we shall leave no stone unturned,” said Nyale.
Nyale, who also chairs the County Security Committee, has assured members of the public that police will remain on high alert as Kenyans travel across the country for the Christmas holiday.
