Pillars Of The Community

Women groups in Nakuru County on Thursday crowned Dr. Jacinter Ndambuki of Laikipia University as a model of prosperity among them.

But in a rejoinder, she trashed the initiative citing helplessness among them and challenged them to use the little power and capabilities bestowed on them by nature and through learning and education.

In an interview with KNA in Nakuru town, Ndambuki said in her research projects on transformational leadership carried out in various counties in the country, one key finding she has noted was that collective action is at the heart of women’s ability to sustain their existence and that of their communities.

However, she stated that if women were to understand and recognize the power of collective responsibility, they can choose to influence the political process in the country.

The don noted that a critical discourse analysis of the women’s ‘text and talk’ theory in focus groups revealed a mismatch between what women say and what they do. She emphasized that there was a difference in the way they view themselves.

Furthermore, she said women in their self-talk or description produce a sense of who they may be despite the fact that they are the ones who shoulder most of the family and community responsibilities.
