Marsabit: The Directorate of Criminal Investigations is investigating two separate incidents of suspected KCSE examination cheating in Marsabit County. The alleged incidents involve 17 candidates in two secondary schools who were found by KNEC officials with mobile phones during exam time.
According to Kenya News Agency, the first incident involved 9 candidates who were caught with mobile phones during the chemistry paper one at Sessi Secondary School in Moyale sub-county. The other incident took place at a private candidates’ examination center in Marsabit Central sub-county, where 8 candidates were found in possession of cell phones during exams.
Marsabit Central Deputy County Commissioner David Saruni stated that the eight cellphones were confiscated and handed over to the police as part of the ongoing investigations. Saruni noted that the candidates would continue with their exams while awaiting the outcome of the analysis of their phones by the DCI.
Moyale Sub County Director of Education Safina Adhi also confirmed that the police had taken possession of the 9 mobile phones from the candidates to aid in the investigations. Following these incidents, the Deputy County Commissioner warned of serious consequences for anyone found engaging in exam malpractices.
