The Narok County Peace Association group has given food worth Sh300, 000 to hunger-stricken families in Suswa area, Narok East Sub County.
The group led by the County Peace Ambassador Joshua Kaputa distributed maize floor, cooking oil, rice and beans to vulnerable families in the area.
Kaputa observed that many livestock in the area had died because of hunger while thousands of families were sleeping on an empty stomach because of the prolonged dry spell that has caused shortage of water in the area.
“Today we came to be a blessing to this community that is suffering because of lack of food. Many livestock in this area have died because of hunger,” he said.
Kaputa asked the National Government to prioritize the Maa community while distributing relief food as many families had nothing to place on the table.
The group’s coordinator Ms. Grace Graced asked organizations like churches, clubs and Non- Governmental Organizations to join in the mission of distributing food to the vulnerable groups.
She observed that many people were walking long distances to look for water as the water vendors were selling 20 litres jerrycan at Sh40.
“What we brought is something little to sustain a few families for a few days. We challenge other organizations and individuals to also join hands and donate food to vulnerable people as we wait for the rains to fall,” he said.
Rev. Peter Kalumbari, who ministers in the Suswa area, confirmed that many families were struggling to have a single meal per day.
He reiterated that the number of people who come for Sunday services has decreased in the recent past as people have moved to look for pasture and water for their livestock.
Hellen Dika, a resident of the area, thanked the organization for the food donation saying it was a big relief for the people who have been struggling to get food.
