Kakamega: The Commission on Administrative Justice has issued a stern warning to Kenyans, urging them to refrain from offering bribes to access government services. The commission also cautioned government officers against demanding bribes for service delivery.
According to Kenya News Agency, during an open day event held by the commission in Kakamega, Charles Dulo, the Chairperson of the CAJ, emphasized the importance of reporting cases where individuals are denied government services. Dulo reassured the public that the commission is fully prepared to address such issues and take action against those responsible for withholding constitutionally guaranteed services.
Dulo expressed concerns over complaints from residents who have reported being compelled to pay bribes to obtain services from the lands department. He highlighted that intermediaries within the Kakamega lands department are demanding bribes, thereby obstructing individuals from accessing essential services related to land transactions.
The commission plans to follow up on these allegations by engaging with the land registrar and escalating the issue to the Principal Secretary for Lands and the Cabinet Secretary in charge of lands. The open day event aimed to raise public awareness, receive complaints, and provide legal assistance to the residents of Kakamega County.
The initiative is part of the commission’s broader strategy to extend its services to grassroots levels, ensuring accessibility and accountability in public service delivery.
