Oburu Urges Youth to Register as Voters

Eldoret: Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Leader, Oburu Odinga, has urged young people to register as voters in preparation for the upcoming general elections. Oburu emphasized the significance of voter registration as a tool for youth empowerment, enabling them to influence decisions on critical issues such as education, employment, health, and social policies.

According to Kenya News Agency, Oburu made these remarks during a press briefing at Uasin Gishu County Headquarters before presiding over an ODM Delegate meeting in Eldoret. He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to supporting the Broad-Based Government, a legacy left by his late brother, Raila Odinga. Oburu praised the government for fostering national unity, stability, and inclusive development by bringing together leaders from across the political spectrum.

Oburu highlighted that the ODM is conducting a countrywide consultative tour to engage delegates and grassroots leaders on party leadership, unity, and its future. The tour aims to strengthen internal democracy, enhance party cohesion, and provide a platform for delegates to openly share their views on ODM’s leadership and organizational structures. Through these consultations, the party seeks to reinforce its commitment to inclusive dialogue and participatory decision-making.

The party leader announced plans for ODM to hold meetings across various regions, emphasizing unity, discipline, and collective responsibility as the party positions itself as a strong and progressive political movement. During a delegates meeting in Eldoret, ODM Deputy Party Leader Simba Arati assured members that the party remains intact and vibrant at the grassroots level. He highlighted the importance of inclusivity in Eldoret’s cosmopolitan setting to ensure collective advancement.

Arati stressed that ODM is not in opposition but part of the broad-based government, and he urged leaders to unite and collaborate with President William Ruto for the country to become a global powerhouse. He encouraged party members to remain fearless, even in the face of intimidation, while advancing the party’s agenda.

Additionally, Kevin Oyoo, Chairman of the Unemployed Youth in Eldoret, called for inclusive employment practices, urging authorities to hire members of minority communities to ensure equal job opportunities. Oyoo, from Kapseret, emphasized that discussions on a Broad-Based Government must include inclusivity in decision-making.

Meanwhile, persons with disabilities raised concerns about continued marginalization, noting that many are forced to purchase assistive devices like wheelchairs with their own funds to live with dignity.
