Nyamira: Nyamira County Woman Representative, Jerusha Momanyi, has called on residents of Nyamira County to formally register their groups to access government funding and empowerment projects aimed at fostering community development.
According to Kenya News Agency, Momanyi emphasized the importance of group registration while distributing tents to registered community-based organizations in Nyamira. She noted that many residents, particularly youths, women, and persons with disabilities, miss out on government funding and development projects because they do not organize themselves into groups.
Momanyi highlighted that the government’s financial empowerment strategy relies on groups registered with the Department of Social Development. These groups, united by a shared economic vision, are more likely to receive government support due to their demonstrated unity of purpose. She explained that registered groups facilitate easier access for government officers to reach grassroots communities and enhance their
bargaining power for services and support.
Momanyi also pointed out that the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) cannot meet all the funding needs of business initiatives. She advised residents to seek additional funds from other government agencies and institutions that provide financial support to registered groups aiming to expand their businesses.
Addressing healthcare access challenges, Momanyi urged residents to be patient as the government works to resolve initial issues with the SHA insurance coverage. Efforts are being made to streamline the system to ensure residents can access medical services without cash payments, which are increasingly burdensome in the current economic climate.
Beyond advocating for group registration, Jerusha Momanyi has been actively supporting youth involved in sports, women in economic ventures, and schoolgirls by providing sanitary towels. She has also contributed water storage tanks to schools for rainwater harvesting, ensuring a reliable water supply d
uring dry seasons.
