Nairobi: Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Enabling Impact through Digital Understanding (EIDU), a Non-Governmental Organization, to equip Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) learners with digital skills. This initiative aims to foster innovation, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities among young learners through technology.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Governor stressed the importance of introducing children to digital learning early in life, highlighting the necessity for individuals to be tech-savvy in the 21st century. He noted that EIDU would assist in collecting, analyzing, and safeguarding learner data in real time, which is crucial for planning, policy formulation, budgeting, and assessing learner progress.

The county is also in partnership with the Kisumu Medical and Education Trust (KMET) to promote nutrition, enhancing cognitive and mental capabilities to improve the retention of educational content among young learners.

EIDU’s Government Relations Specialist, Lilian Arugwi, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Nyamira County, marking it as the 27th county to join their program. EIDU plans to invest Sh20 million in the first year, providing hardware devices, operating software for personalized teacher training, and curriculum books for monitoring and training.

The initiative aims to train 408 ECDE teachers and program implementation officers to disseminate the program to teachers. After the training, EIDU will introduce digital learning skills to 204 pre-primary schools, targeting learners in PP1 and PP2 levels.

Ms. Arugwi emphasized the program’s goal of enhancing learning outcomes, particularly in numeracy and literacy. The digital tools provided will include structured lesson plans and real-time personalized assessment tools to monitor learner progress.

She assured that the county’s education department would receive support through a meta-base platform for real-time data access, enabling data-based reports for policy formulation and budgeting. She clarified that EIDU aligns with Kenya’s education priorities, with content approved by KICD and compliant with the Curriculum Based Curriculum (CBC) system. Additionally, approvals from the Information Communication and Technology Authority (ICTA) and Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) ensure data sensitivity and regulation adherence.

Ms. Arugwi expressed anticipation for a collaborative effort with Nyamira County’s education department to create a significant impact on learners through the digital literacy program, benefiting both immediate outcomes and future prosperity.
