NLC Initiates Ground Verification for Homa Bay Informal Settlements

Homa bay: A team from the National Land Commission (NLC), led by Deputy Director for Land Administration Zachariah Ndege, has commenced ground verification exercises under the Kenya Informal Settlements Improvement Project II (KISIP II) in Homa Bay County. The exercise aims to address land administration issues by focusing on the Ndhiwa Settlement Scheme and Kijijini Informal Settlement Scheme to ensure proper documentation of tenure.

According to Kenya News Agency, the NLC team was welcomed by Homa Bay County Coordinator Violet Odawa and paid a courtesy visit to Homa Bay County Commissioner, Mr. Ronald Mwiwawi. The Commissioner highlighted the importance of coordination and accurate record-keeping in securing land tenure and praised the team for their efforts in this initiative. ‘There is a need to ensure that the process of issuing tenure documents is streamlined to prevent disputes,’ Mwiwawi stated.

Mr. Ndege outlined that the verification exercise will involve confirming beneficiary lists, assessing the alignment of approved plans with actual developments, verifying land availability and viability, and resolving disputes prior to the issuance of tenure documents. ‘This exercise marks a critical step toward tenure regularization and sustainable urban development under KISIP II,’ Ndege said.
