Needy Students Receive Bursaries In Kajiado

Over 2500 needy students from Kajiado East Constituency have benefitted from Sh25 Million bursary from the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) kitty.
Kajiado East Member of Parliament Peris Tobiko, while handing over the cheques to the beneficiaries at the NGCDF offices in Kitengela town, noted that 197 University students and 148 college students would benefit from the funds.
The legislator added that 1,927 secondary school students would also receive bursaries while 66 others would receive full scholarships.
Noting that the bursary only targets students from less privileged families, Tobiko revealed that the selection of the beneficiaries is done by a committee from each of the 20 locations.
“This criterion ensures that the targeted groups are genuine and there is no biasness in allocation. Those who have benefitted are the ones who are in dire need and whose education may be cut short if they do not receive the bursary to pay their fees,” she said.
Tobiko further noted that besides issuance of bursaries, her office had funded construction of classrooms, libraries, toilets and dormitories in a bid to promote education by providing a conducive environment for learners.
She warned school heads against misappropriating funds and urged them to exercise transparency so as to ensure infrastructure in their schools are improved.
“NG-CDF has and will continue to play a vital role in uplifting educational standards in Kajiado East through; construction of new classrooms and repair of damaged ones, construction of staffrooms, teachers’ quarters, and building dormitories,” said the MP.
Tobiko further thanked the residents of Kajiado East for the two terms they have elected her as their representative in parliament and urged her successor to follow in her footsteps and ensure the NG-CDF funds are spent prudently to benefit all residents regardless of their tribes.
