Gesiaga: Needy secondary school students at Gesiaga High School have received bursaries worth over Sh1.3 million, courtesy of the West Mugirango National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) kitty. West Mugirango Constituency MP Stephen Mogaka distributed cheques to 432 students during the school’s education day, highlighting that Gesiaga High School is a mixed-county school in his constituency with substantial enrolment rates.

According to Kenya News Agency, MP Mogaka emphasized the school’s role in accommodating children from financially struggling families, especially those with high academic potential. He noted that many parents prefer Gesiaga High School due to its mixed-gender setup and consistent record of good grades in KCSE examinations. Mogaka expressed his commitment to ensuring that students from vulnerable families in his constituency have access to education.

The MP also addressed the need for parents to fulfill their financial commitments to avoid students facing absenteeism due to unpaid fees. He described education as a crucial equalizer in society, especially amid economic challenges, and urged students to remain disciplined and work diligently to achieve their dreams.

Dr. George Ondieki, the Chief Principal of Gesiaga High School, expressed gratitude for the MP’s financial support, which enables needy students to attend classes alongside their peers. He acknowledged the ongoing support from the MP, including the construction of ultramodern classrooms, and assured that the school aims to achieve a mean grade point of 8.5+ this year through collaboration with teachers and staff.

Dr. Ondieki also appealed to parents to fulfill their roles as key stakeholders in their children’s education by instilling discipline and supporting their academic efforts at home. He highlighted the importance of parenting in shaping students’ academic performance and potential.

Gesiaga High School saw 886 candidates sit for last year’s KCSE examination, with 608 achieving a mean grade of C+ and above, qualifying them for direct university entry. The school recorded a class mean score of 7.7130, showing an improvement from the previous year’s results.
