Mombasa: Two bright but needy students from New Life Children’s Home in Mshomoroni, Junda Ward, are appealing to well-wishers for help to enable them to join their dream schools after excelling in their Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) exams. Saum Mramba, 17, and Esther Khutushi, 16, secured 64 and 63 points, respectively, earning them both placement at Naivasha Girls but have since been forced to stay at home due to school fee constraints.
According to Kenya News Agency, Esther Khutushi’s predicament is unique, as she was rescued as a minor back in 2016 while working as a house help in the Kiembeni area in Bamburi Ward. She recounted her experience of being brought to Kiembeni at the age of eight from Western Kenya under the pretense of starting a new school life in Mombasa, only to be turned into a domestic worker. Khutushi expressed gratitude to the police and children’s officers who rescued her from that situation.
Mramba, an orphan admitted to New Life Children’s Home in 2017, credits her excellent academic performance to the discipline instilled at the institution. She expressed her aspiration to continue her education, having faced an abrupt halt in her schooling following her father’s death, until New Life took her in. Mramba is hopeful that well-wishers will assist her in pursuing further education.
Japheth Eyama, Director of New Life Children’s Home, has made an appeal for support to facilitate the timely admission of the two students to grade 10, which began over a week ago. Eyama urged leaders and well-wishers to help the girls realize their educational dreams.
To support these students, well-wishers can contact the director via telephone at 0721564037 or visit New Life Children’s Home in Mshomoroni, Mlango Saba, Junda Ward.
