The Narok County Assembly has passed a Sh15 billion supplementary budget aimed at boosting service delivery in the County.
The budget, tabled in the County by Finance Committee Chairman Timothy Mako saw the health sector receive the lion’s share of Sh3.2 billion followed by roads and public works that received Sh2 billion.
Mako said the health department received more allocation because of the ongoing constructions at the Narok County Referral Hospital, where a modern mortuary, wards and Kenya Medical Training College are being constructed.
The roads also received a sizable budget owing to the fact that most of them across the county were in a pathetic situation and completely impassable during the rainy seasons.
Other departments that received a sizable allocation included Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries and the department of Education which got Sh803 and Sh598 respectively.
Lands, housing and physical planning department was allocated Sh347 million, while the Forestry, Environment and Natural resources docket got Sh547 million.
Mako, who is also the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Naikkara ward said the county assembly had adjusted most of the budgets upwards, compared to what had been passed by the second assembly.
The Finance Committee chair promised the people of Narok that the current administration was committed to service delivery and they will soon see more development projects in their localities.
“We decided as a committee to first work on priority areas so that we deliver basic services closer to our people like purchase of drugs, complete the new referral hospital and medical school as well as renovating more roads,’’ said Mako.
The Leader of Majority at the County Assembly Dominic Lemein, thanked Governor Patrick Ntutu saying the assembly was fully committed in working with the county administration so as to improve living standards for the people.
Lemein said in the last three months, since the new administration came into office, the County collected a record of local revenue amounting to Sh1.3 billion, within a very short span.
