Nandi hills: Residents of Nandi Hills Constituency are set to benefit from the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) after the area Member of Parliament (MP), Bernard Kitur, launched a bursary programme worth Sh62.6 million to support needy learners. The bursary targets students in universities, colleges, and secondary schools, providing much-needed relief to households across the constituency.
According to Kenya News Agency, the bursary disbursement exercise was held at the Nandi East Sub-County headquarters grounds. The MP emphasized his commitment to supporting education, particularly for learners from humble backgrounds. The 2026 NG-CDF bursary will benefit a total of 7,727 learners across different educational levels, including 819 university students, 825 college students, 1,503 secondary school boarding students, and 4,580 secondary day school learners.
MP Kitur highlighted his mission to improve the lives of Nandi Hills residents by ensuring timely disbursement of the bursary. He noted that education remains a top priority for his leadership and expressed pride in Nandi Hills Constituency being the first in the country to release the 2026 NG-CDF bursary.
Kitur encouraged beneficiaries to focus on their studies, stressing the importance of hard work and discipline for a brighter future. He also prioritized secondary day schools, acknowledging the unique challenges these institutions face regarding school fees and their impact on academic performance.
The MP raised concerns about teacher shortages in some schools within the constituency and urged the Ministry of Education to address the issue urgently. Nandi East Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Ngalia Ndaya, praised the timely disbursement of the bursary, emphasizing its critical role in keeping learners in school.
DCC Ndaya also warned parents against engaging in illicit activities to raise school fees, urging them to ensure their children attend school. The Deputy County Commissioner encouraged learners to utilize the bursary support effectively by concentrating on their studies.
Former NG-CDF bursary beneficiary, Jabez Kipchumba, shared his success story at the event, motivating students from humble backgrounds. He credited financial support, such as bursaries, for enabling him to excel academically despite his family’s struggles, and encouraged current beneficiaries to remain focused on their education.
The bursary launch was attended by students, parents, education stakeholders, and local leaders, who praised the programme as a significant boost to access and retention in education within Nandi Hills Constituency.
