Mvurya Defends Ruto’s Education Record As Kwale County Strengthens Bursary Support

Kwale: Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya, has defended President William Ruto’s record on education, saying the national government has made significant progress in strengthening the sector since assuming office. Speaking at Kingwede Girls’ High School in Kwale County during a ceremony to recognize students who excelled in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, Mvurya said the government had prioritized education through increased budgetary allocation, improved infrastructure and recruitment of teachers.

According to Kenya News Agency, Mvurya, who represented Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba at the event, noted that President Ruto’s administration had remained committed to ensuring quality and accessible education for all learners across the country. He cited the substantial allocation to the Ministry of Education in the current financial year as evidence of the government’s determination to improve learning outcomes and expand opportunities for students.

‘The Kenya Kwanza administration, under the leadership of President William Ruto, has continued to prioritize education through increased funding, improved learning infrastructure and the recruitment of teachers to ensure that every child has access to quality education,’ said Mvurya.

The CS also commended the Kwale County Government for complementing national efforts through its Education in Elimu ni Sasa programme, which has enabled learners from vulnerable backgrounds to remain in school. Kwale County Executive Committee Member for Education, Mishi Kaole, lauded the initiative, saying it had transformed the lives of thousands of students who would otherwise have struggled to access education due to financial constraints.

Kaole said that under the leadership of Governor Fatuma Achani, the county government had this year disbursed bursaries amounting to Sh400 million to support learners at various levels of education. ‘The Kwale County Government, under the leadership of our Governor Fatuma Achani, has this year provided bursaries totaling Sh400 million, benefiting more than 30,000 students across different levels of education, including secondary schools, universities and technical and vocational training institutions. The programme has also supported our brothers and sisters living with disabilities,’ said Kaole.

She added that the bursary programme reflects the county administration’s commitment to promoting equitable access to education and empowering young people through learning. Kingwede Girls’ High School, which emerged fourth in Kwale County in the 2025 KCSE examinations, celebrated the achievement of 109 candidates who attained university entry grades.

Education stakeholders who attended the event emphasized the importance of collaboration between the national and county governments in addressing barriers to education and improving opportunities for learners from disadvantaged communities.
