Muslims in Kajiado County received food donations at mosques across the county from well-wishers as the country marked Idd-ul-Fitr celebrations.
Speaking during the food donation drive in Bulbul Town, Kajiado North Member of Parliament Joseph Manje called on Muslim faithful to maintain peaceful coexistence among themselves and other community members.
“As you celebrate Idd-ul-Fitr, let us pray for the peace of our country and continue to maintain peaceful coexistence with other members of the community. In Kajiado County, people have always lived together peacefully regardless tribe or religion and we would like to ensure the continuity of this peaceful coexistence,” said Manje.
Former Kajiado Governor David Nkedienye lauded the Muslim community for their contribution in maintaining peace in the county. He called on Muslims to shun divisive politics that threaten peace in the community.
“The members of the Muslim community in Kajiado County have always been people of good moral values. I would like all Kajiado residents to unite against divisive tribal politics during this election period because all residents have a right to live and conduct business freely in a peaceful environment,” said Nkedienye.
The leaders have reiterated the significance of peaceful coexistence among residents for the development of Kajiado County citing that division would create obstacles for the development agenda of the county.
The donations consisted of maize flour, rice, wheat flour, cooking oil and sugar for use to mark the end of Ramadan where Muslims indulge in feasting and share donations with the poor and vulnerable members in the community.
