Hundreds of Muslim faithful in Garissa today joined their colleagues around the globe to celebrate Eid ul Fitr to mark the end of Ramadhan.
Clad in their Mulsim regalia, the faithful both old and young, women and children started streaming into the prayer grounds and mosques as early as 7am to celebrate one of the most important events in the Islamic calendar.
For Muslims worldwide, Eid ul Fitr marks the end of Ramadhan, the Islamic holy month of fasting and prayer. It is one of the largest and most important celebrations in the Islamic calendar.
Kenyans were treated to a five-day holiday after Interior CS Fred Matiangí declared tomorrow a public holiday to mark Idd Ul Fitr. The government declared Friday April 29 a national holiday following the death of former President Mwai Kibaki.
At the Rtd General Mohamud’s Idd prayer grounds, local leaders who took part in the celebrations urged fellow Muslim faithful to be generous towards the poor.
Abakaile MCA Mohamed Ali also called on Kenyans to ‘wisely choose their leaders’ in the forthcoming August 9 polls.
Mohamed who is the minority leader at the Garissa County Assembly said Kenyans should choose visionary leaders for various seats during the general elections.
“It’s upon you as citizens and voters to choose the person you think will bring development to your county and country at large…,” Mohamed said.
