Mugururu Junior School Gets New Lab

Nyeri: Learners at Muruguru Junior Secondary School will have something to smile about following the handing over of a modern laboratory to the institution courtesy of Kenya Pipeline Company PLC Foundation. The facility, constructed at a cost of Sh5 million, also comes with a fully installed solar power connection and lab equipment for use by students during practical lessons.

According to Kenya News Agency, KPLC Foundation Director Dr. Irene Wachira stated during the handing-over ceremony that the corporation sets aside Sh150 million every financial year to improve learning facilities in all the 47 counties. Dr. Wachira further mentioned that the Foundation collaborates with local communities and leaders to identify priority projects requiring urgent intervention before embarking on any development.

Dr. Wachira emphasized that the new facility would ease the problem of learners having to seek such facilities elsewhere and enhance practical science skills for the pupils. She noted that the laboratory has a capacity of 40 students at any given period and expressed confidence in the positive impact of the initiative, which ensures projects are distributed across all counties without focusing on one particular region.

Muruguru Comprehensive School Principal Mary Githitho expressed her gratitude to KPLC Foundation for aiding in the laboratory’s construction, which addresses challenges previously faced by both learners and tutors. Githitho highlighted the difficulties encountered when science teachers had to transport experiment materials to classrooms, complicating data collection and assessment. The new laboratory allows students to conduct experiments simultaneously, improving the learning experience.

Nyeri Town MP Duncan Mathenge praised the partnership between KPLC Foundation and learning institutions, describing it as a game-changer in the pursuit of academic excellence. Mathenge mentioned that his office has also received assistance from other organizations, such as the Safaricom Foundation and Cooperative Bank of Kenya, to support the development of learning facilities, supplementing the efforts of the NG-CDF at the grassroots level.
