Kirinyaga Central MP Gachoki Gitari says he is closely working with former Infrastructure Principal Secretary Prof Paul Maringa to achieve development goals that he initiated as well as in starting new ones.
Speaking at the Ngaru Market that was being constructed by the National Government at a cost of Sh30 million, Gitari said that the former administrator should be involved in matters of development because of his experience and wide exposure in overseeing projects countrywide.
“As politicians we should engage former Principal Secretaries so that we can complete the projects they started since they have the expertise, experience and knowledge of various development goals,” said Gitari.
During former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime, Kirinyaga Central had projects that were being supervised by Professor Maringa, who Gitari has vowed to work with since he knew the funds allocated to all projects.
“The professor knows the amount of funds that were allocated to these projects and he will assist us in ensuring that we provide the money for the completion. I will work with him in all the steps till we finalize all of them,” Gitari added.
Projects that were ongoing in Kianyaga Central that Maringa closely monitored include: Ngaru dispensary, Police post, Ngaru market and renovation of both Ngaru primary and secondary schools.
The modern Ngaru market will host at least 200 traders with access to electricity, clean water and good drainage. After touring the market Gitari said the market committees that are in place will not be reshuffled.
He promised the traders to repair the water pipes that were destroyed during construction of roads to ensure constant supply of water into the market.
Traders at Ngaru market appreciated the move by their MP to pick up the projects and complete them. Lucy Wangari, a trader, said the only challenge was water systems that were tampered with during road construction. However, she urged those selling their products along the roads to use the market space.
“We thank our MP for pledging to complete all projects. Some are still selling in Mukinduri along Kerugoya-Baricho road, I request them to come and occupy this space,” Wangari said.
