According to statists carried out by the Department of Health in 2022, 71 percent of the area residents got mosquito nets from the Ministry of Health of the County government, 65 percent use them while 5 percent do not use them.
Speaking to the press to today at Hola County Referral Hospital, a health official in charge of malaria disease in Tana River Mr. Omar Bere said in order to prevent the spread of malaria in the area, the Department of Health has been distributing mosquito nets to all residents after every three years but malaria disease is still a challenge following the refusal of people to use the nets.
Mr. Bere said currently the Department of Health is distributing mosquito nets to the most vulnerable groups who are pregnant mothers and children below one year.
He also said some of the local residents do not visit health facilities seeking medical attention but visit traditional medicine men/women, the current status is that 54 percent of local residents make to hospital while 46 percent do not.
He therefore called on the local residents to seek medical attention from health facilities when suffering from malaria instead of depending on traditional doctors.
Bere said there are two types of malaria, uncompleted malaria that is easily treated and completed malaria which is life threatening whereby the victim become unconscious experiencing low blood and sugar levels and the victims should be admitted in a health facility for treatment.
