Moi Tambach Primary Launches Clean Energy Initiative

Moi Tambach Primary School in Keiyo North Sub County has taken a major step in promoting a clean energy initiative by partnering with Equity Bank to implement a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) project for the school’s dining hall.
Speaking at the school, Elgeyo Marakwet Deputy Governor Prof. Grace Cheserek applauded the school for embracing clean energy and said it would greatly conserve the environment.
She further congratulated the school for being the top performer in the County in academic performance and management and now they are leading in going green.
The Deputy Governor urged other schools to follow Moi Tambach’s example and embrace use of clean energy, adding that thousands of acres of trees are felled yearly for wood fuel used in boarding schools, contributing to the degradation of the environment.
Prof. Cheserek called on those in attendance to play a part in environmental restoration and suggested that everyone plants trees equivalent to their age during the current rainy season.
She also asked locals to support Governor Wisley Rotich initiative to plant 3.2million trees in Elgeyo Marakwet as part of the Presidential pledge to plant 15 billion trees in Kenya to combat climate change.
The Deputy Governor further revealed that the County Government would come up with a policy to conserve the escarpment to encourage residents living along the escarpments to plant fruit trees and coffee.
This initiative will not only conserve the environment but also help in the economic empowerment of the community through the sale of fruits and coffee.
