Migori: Migori Chief Officer for Public Health and Sanitation, Ms. Mable Chanzu, has called upon county residents to take their children for the Typhoid Vaccine (TCV) and Measles Rubella Vaccine (MR) to protect their loved ones and reduce child mortality. Speaking during the Typhoid Vaccine (TCV) and Measles Rubella Vaccine (MR) Campaign in Awendo Sub County, Chanzu highlighted the importance of the initiative that aims to safeguard the health of children against two preventable yet potentially deadly diseases.
According to Kenya News Agency, the campaign will incorporate education stakeholders to facilitate access to vaccinate school-going children. The drive is focused on providing long-lasting protection against typhoid fever, a severe illness prevalent in areas with limited access to clean water and sanitation. The initiative also seeks to prevent outbreaks of measles, a highly contagious disease that can cause serious complications.
Chanzu explained that the Typhoid and Measles Rubella Vaccines are crucial in reducing child mortality rates, improving health outcomes, and enhancing community immunity. She stressed the importance of collaboration with the education sector to ensure a comprehensive vaccination reach, aiming for a 100 percent success rate in the campaign.
Local leadership and partners, including the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and Lwala Community Alliance, have been acknowledged for their roles in reaching every child in Migori with these essential vaccines. Chanzu emphasized that the county’s leadership is committed to a healthier future, protecting children from preventable diseases, and ensuring the right to good health for all residents.
