Nairobi: Migori Members of County Assembly (MCAs) have clarified that they have yet to receive any formal motion aimed at impeaching Deputy Governor Joseph Mahiri. The MCAs emphasized that no such motion has been tabled in the house to date, but they are prepared to debate it should it be presented in the future.
According to Kenya News Agency, Kacheng Ward MCA Brian Osodo highlighted the right of each MCA to introduce motions, stressing the assembly’s responsibility to scrutinize and debate any motion brought forward. Kaler Ward MCA Thomas Akungo supported this stance, expressing the assembly’s readiness to assess and discuss the motion’s merits once it is officially tabled.
Tagare Ward MCA Moses Magwa, who initiated the impeachment agenda, stated that the motion is progressing with significant backing from fellow MCAs. Magwa is compiling additional documentation, including records from the Deputy Governor’s office, to support the motion when presented to the County Assembly.
Magwa’s allegations against Deputy Governor Mahiri include corruption, embezzlement, and neglect of the Kuria community’s interests. He referenced Auditor General’s reports from 2022 to 2025, which purportedly show unaccounted funds allocated for peace initiatives in Migori County. Furthermore, Magwa claimed that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) identified the Deputy Governor’s office as the most corrupt within the county.
