Migori CC Orders Strict Review On School Safety

Migori: Migori County Commissioner (CC), Kisilu Mutua, has directed all sub-county security teams and Ministry of Education (MOE) officers to conduct inspections in schools across the region to ensure compliance with the Ministry of Education’s School Safety Manual. Speaking during the Madaraka Day celebrations at Masaba in Kuria West Sub-county, Mutua ordered the stakeholders to begin a crackdown on the local boarding schools to ensure they adhere to all the necessary existing education regulations, citing the increased fire incidents and unrest in schools.

According to Kenya News Agency, Mutua emphasized the importance of protecting schools from immoral learners taking advantage of negligence from school principals, school boards, education officials, and teachers. He urged sub-county security teams to be proactive in safeguarding students. Mutua also called on parents and teachers to actively engage in their children’s upbringing to foster better character and moral development.

Citing a recent incident
at Utumishi School in Gilgil, Mutua stressed the necessity of being attentive to the development and care of children. Additionally, he warned chiefs against soliciting or accepting bribes for government services, rei that these services are free except for those processed through Huduma Centres. He encouraged residents to report any corruption cases.

Mutua also expressed concern over the escalating robbery and murder cases in the Kuria region, particularly in the gold mines. He highlighted the urgent need to address these crimes and work collaboratively to reduce the crime rate in the area.

The event saw the presence of Mathias Robi, the Member of Parliament for Kuria West, who praised the national government’s efforts in supporting development projects in Migori County, including the economic stimulus program (ESP) markets in Kuria West. Robi acknowledged the positive impact of these initiatives on the local community.
