Meru County: Meru County on Wednesday launched the County Implementation Committee for the climate resilience service program (CRSP), commonly referred to as ‘Kazi Mtaani’. This initiative is set to benefit 1,660 youth and 56 supervisors across the county.

According to Kenya News Agency, Meru County Commissioner Jacob Ouma emphasized that the programme aims to target vulnerable youth to uplift their livelihoods. The initiative will be implemented across all 15 sub-counties in Meru. The CRSP programme is designed as an employment transition project for youth, focusing on fostering climate resilience and economic recovery. It addresses needs in roads and infrastructure, environment, housing, and urban development sectors.

Mr. Ouma urged committee members to maintain good morals during the programme’s rollout, noting that government officers serve as community role models. He highlighted the importance of teamwork and resource dedication for the committee’s success. Additionally, he emphasized the need for officers to adhere to procedures as the programme unfolds at grassroots levels.

The programme is part of a broader government plan to engage young people in income-generating activities, enabling them to meet their basic needs. The youth will work in two cohorts, with each cohort working for ten days before rotating, over a period of six months. Mr. Ouma encouraged the recruited youth to work diligently and manage their earnings wisely, warning against laziness and laxity. The government will compensate workers with Sh500 per day, while supervisors will receive Sh550.
