Nairobi: Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has called for enhanced coordination between the National Government and County Governments to strengthen the implementation and ownership of development projects across the country. Speaking over the weekend at Mori Primary School in Uriri Constituency, Migori County, during a women empowerment event attended by more than 1,500 women, Mbadi emphasized that development must be understood as a shared responsibility between both levels of government.

According to Kenya News Agency, Mbadi stressed the importance of collaboration by stating, “You cannot give credit to one side without complementing the other. Projects implemented by the National Government in Migori are being done through both the National and County Governments. That is the spirit of devolution,” he told the gathering. He highlighted several ongoing projects in Migori County with national support, including the construction and equipping of the Piny Owacho Hospital in Uriri, for which the government has committed Sh50 million.

Mbadi affirmed that the Kenya Kwanza administration is dedicated to equitable development across all regions of the country. “Let us tell our people that the government of today has remembered all sections of the country. We are improving the country uniformly, not selectively,” he asserted.

On the political front, Mbadi encouraged Nyanza leaders to remain steadfast in the broad-based government arrangement. “We must continue with the broad-based government. We cannot gamble with politics as Luos,” he advised. He assured that ODM leaders participating in the government would not relinquish their positions, emphasizing, “We are in government, and we cannot exit to look for another government. There is no going to the streets.”

Mbadi further underscored that ODM’s collaboration with President William Ruto is strategic, aiming for long-term political stability and regional development. “Our mission is to support President Ruto for a second term, and thereafter we seek the presidency,” he declared. He also pledged that party nominations would remain transparent and competitive, ensuring no candidate would receive a direct ticket under his oversight.

The event saw attendance from Energy CS Opiyo Wandayi, Migori Governor Dr. Ochillo Ayacko, Uriri MP Mark Nyamita, Suna West MP Peter Masara, and Members of the County Assembly led by Speaker Christopher Rusana.
