Wote: Mavindini FC emerged victorious over Wote FC with a 1-0 win, securing their place in the sub county finals of the MKJ Supa Cup tournament, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

According to Kenya News Agency, Mavindini FC clinched the crucial win with a penalty goal in the second half, following a foul on one of their players during the match held at Police Sports Ground in Wote town. Representing Makueni Sub County, Mavindini FC will compete against five other teams from the sub counties of Mbooni, Kibwezi West, Kibwezi East, Kilome, and Kaiti in the upcoming finals at Unoa Sports Ground.

The tournament’s conclusion will see the formation of a county team, composed of the best players, to represent the region in the Kenya Youth Inter-county Sports Association (KYSA) event scheduled for April 13 in Homa Bay County.

During the event, Gender, Youth and Sports County Executive Committee Member (CECM) Eng. Sebastian Kyoni addressed the issue of player poaching, which has been a recurring problem in past games. Kyoni urged teams to refrain from this practice, as it hampers the tournament’s progress.

“We have had so many cases of player poaching in the previous games and this issue is consuming more time in arbitration. This trend consumes a lot of time,” Kyoni stated.

Kyoni also acknowledged concerns regarding limited playing time due to congested fixtures and assured improvements in the remaining games, promising 45-minute halves. He further addressed complaints about poor officiating, indicating that the tournament’s overseeing board would review and address these issues to ensure fairness.

The event was attended by Wote/Nziu Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Felix Mateso, along with his counterparts Pascal Liku and Francis King’oo from Kathozweni and Mbitini wards, respectively.
