Nairobi: Kisumu Deputy Governor Mathews Owili has hailed a pact between Maseno University and the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) towards unveiling top-notch medical research procedures. While speaking at the Kisumu County Headquarters, Owili said the pact would enhance medical services in Kisumu now and in the future.

According to Kenya News Agency, the partnership will bring together the University of Pittsburgh, JOOTRH, and Maseno University’s Department of Health. This collaboration aims to facilitate knowledge exchange and advanced specialized training, focusing on groundbreaking research in priority health care areas. Owili emphasized that this health care research consortium is a step towards positioning Kisumu as a center of excellence in medical training, research, and innovation.

The Chief Executive Officer at JOOTRH, Dr. Richard Lesiampe, highlighted that the partnership would not only enhance medical services at the facility but also improve care for expectant women, aiming to prevent the loss of lives of mothers and newborns. Lesiampe expressed strong support for the agreement, noting its potential to significantly improve services for expectant mothers at the hospital.

Maseno University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Julius Nyabundi, praised the agreement as a significant move towards embracing novel medical research. He commended the Kisumu County government and JOOTRH for their support, noting that the partnership would strengthen the university’s research capabilities. Nyabundi welcomed the collaboration and expressed optimism about the increased activities and agreements it would bring, considering it a substantial win for all parties involved.
