Masalani Business Woman Arrested For Trading On Game Meat

The spouse of a renowned business man in Masalani town in Garissa County was arrested during a sting operation following reports that the sale of game meat in the region had fully gone commercial in some manyattas.

Kenya wildlife service warden Mr Adan Alio said the security team working on a tip off found the woman Furaha Hassan Nasteh selling game meat at Bulla Gadud village in masalani town of Ijara sub County.

He told KNA that preliminary reports into the game meat syndicate indicated that unscrupulous traders colluded with poachers to kill wild animals for meat which were later transported for sale in the suburbs.

Alio said the suspect was found with at least 122 Kg of giraffe meat complete with a weighing machine with most of the game meat pilled in buckets.

“today at around 1000hrs our KWS team and NRT 97,jointly with Kenya police Masalani managed to arrest one suspect by name Furaha Hassan Nasteh ID no 26029498 area of bula gadud in ijara sub county Garissa county, in possession of 122kg of giraffe meat’ the report read.

He said the woman along with the seized game meat were booked at Masalani police station vide ob no 09/02/10/2023”

The incident comes after various reports were made over alarming trend on commercialization of game meat before the Kenya Wildlife Services, National Rangelands Trust inconjuction with Masalani police and Ishaqbini conservancy rangers acted to tame the runaway.

Residents were also sensitized on the risks in consumption of game meat which could infest both human and livestock transmission diseases.
