Marsabit: The Marsabit county leadership has praised President William Ruto’s administration for its ongoing implementation of programs aimed at transforming the lives of local residents. At the same time, Marsabit County Commissioner James Kamau has urged local communities to shun female genital mutilation (FGM) and other forms of gender-based violence for enhanced cohesion and growth.

According to Kenya News Agency, led by Governor Mohammud Ali during this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations held in the newly created Korr sub-county in Laisamis constituency, the leaders highlighted the government’s investment in projects in the water, agriculture, and roads sectors as commendable. Governor Ali pledged Sh 10 million towards the operationalization of the new administrative unit, now that the government has posted a deputy county commissioner (DCC) to the area. The funds will be used to construct residential quarters for the officers, bringing essential government services closer to the people.

The local national government constituency development fund (NG-CDF) is set to finance the construction of offices starting next month, as the government strives to fulfill its promises to the people. Governor Ali expressed satisfaction with the Ruto administration’s willingness to accelerate development and improve the lives of Marsabit residents. He urged the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA) to expedite the construction of approved roads across the county.

County Commissioner Kamau condemned FGM as a retrogressive and outlawed practice, urging chiefs to lead the fight against it. He emphasized that no form of gender-based violence will be tolerated and advised local communities to reject such practices as they hinder development. Kamau reiterated the government’s commitment to providing efficient services, noting that the creation of new administrative units aims to enable citizens to access essential services more easily.

Addressing the issue of cattle rustling, the county commissioner warned that the government would take decisive action against those involved and encouraged Morans to pursue better ways of earning a living and creating wealth. He advised the youth to take advantage of government programs like Uwezo, Youth Enterprise, and the Hustler Fund to start income-generating ventures instead of engaging in crime.

County officials were urged to educate residents about existing government initiatives, particularly those targeting youths and women, to help them transform their lives.
