The Mandera county government has launched an ambitious Sh350 million bursary program in a bid to help poor, needy and bright students complete their education.
Mandera Governor Mohamed Khalif while launching the program aimed at helping students from the entire county said no poor bright student will be left out.
Mr. Khalif said the kitty will support students in secondary schools and tertiary institutions.
The governor explained that the action was necessitated by the current ravaging drought that has hindered parents from raising school fees for their children.
The bursary programme dubbed Elimu kwa Wote is set to benefit more than 22,000 students in the 59 government secondary schools in Mandera county and also those in tertiary colleges and universities.
The Mandera County Government has in the recent past allocated funds to the department of education aimed at encouraging bright students from poor and vulnerable families to pursue education and attain their dream careers.
Parents to school going children thanked the county government saying the initiative will alleviate the burden of school fees as their focus will now shift to school uniforms only.
The move by the county government has positively impacted the education sector in Mandera County where students from poor families can now access education.
