Kabarnet: A 34-year-old man, Letete Lomochiba, has been sentenced to four years imprisonment by a Kabarnet court after being found guilty of hitting his pregnant wife on the leg with a stone, causing grievous harm. The incident occurred on November 7, 2025, at Marsabit Village in Ribkwo location within Tiaty Central Sub-county, Baringo County.
According to Kenya News Agency, Lomochiba was accused of intentionally and unlawfully attacking his wife, Chepkite Korii, with a stone. He appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate (SPM) Purity Koskey, admitted to the offense, and was charged with causing grievous harm contrary to section 234 of the penal code.
During her testimony, Korii recounted that on the day of the incident, she sold firewood around noon, and her husband arrived home at 10pm, demanding she leave the house immediately. Fearing his aggression, Korii left with her baby to seek refuge at her mother’s residence. Later that night, Lomochiba arrived at the homestead and began throwing stones, injuring Korii, her mother, and sister.
Korii told the court that after being hit on the leg, she crawled into a nearby bush with her baby until morning before seeking medical treatment. She implored the court to keep Lomochiba in custody, describing him as a threat to her and her children.
Village elders and community members supported her plea, citing Lomochiba’s troubling behavior and its impact on the community. In mitigation, Lomochiba pleaded for leniency, citing his responsibilities towards his children and mother.
However, the prosecution, which presented six witnesses, argued that a solid case had been established against him. SPM Koskey ruled that the offense was aggravated by the fact that Korii was pregnant at the time. To deter similar cases of gender-based violence, the magistrate sentenced Lomochiba to four years in prison, aiming to set an example for others.
