Madiany: Madiany law courts in Rarieda Sub County is set for a Sh40 million upgrade by the Judiciary to improve service delivery. The law court, established in 2019 at the former Rarieda Sub County headquarters, is one of the four facilities in the country to receive special upgrade funding from the Judiciary.
According to Kenya News Agency, the upgrade will transform the facility into an ultramodern court, including the construction of an ODPP office, juvenile cells, and witness protection rooms alongside two open courtrooms. Judiciary’s head of construction projects, Maxwel Sweru, announced during the launch of the construction that the court will be fully solarized and connected to high-speed internet to enable live-streaming for conducting virtual courts. Sweru emphasized that this initiative aligns with the Judiciary’s strategic blueprint, Social Transformation through Access to Justice (STAJ), aimed at constructing courts that respond to climate change challenges.
Sweru disclosed that the facility’s upgrade will take fifteen months, with the completion date set for December 2027. Madiany law court Senior Principal Magistrate (SPM) James Masiga highlighted that the upgrade will improve working conditions for officers who previously lacked proper working stations, such as the office of the ODPP. Masiga noted that the bulk of cases heard at Madiany are succession-related and will now be handled more expeditiously virtually after the facility’s completion.
Charles Siso, a member of the Madiany Court Users Committee, expressed gratitude to the Judiciary for the facility, noting that residents can now access justice locally, as they previously had to travel 30 kilometers to Bondo to attend court sessions. Siso mentioned that the upgraded facility will spur economic growth in the area and advised residents to invest in rental houses and supply food to workers and those attending court sessions.
Rarieda MP, Otiende Amolo, who attended the occasion, revealed that besides the Sh40 million facility, Madiany trading center will benefit from the construction of a Sh7 million police station, with funds already released by the CDF board. Additionally, Mr. Amolo stated that the Ministry of Health would soon upgrade Madiany level 3 hospital to a level five facility.
