Nairobi: Maara Member of Parliament Kareke Mbiuki has donated tents with a combined capacity of 100 people and Sh100,000 to Muungano Welfare Miriingi Community-Based Organization (CBO) to support its income-generating activities.
According to Kenya News Agency, the donation was made during a ceremony at Kirumi Location in Mwimbi Sub-county. Mbiuki emphasized that the contribution was in response to the group’s request and would enable members to hire out the tents for social functions, thereby generating income to enhance their livelihoods and strengthen their welfare.
The MP praised the members for their self-reliance, as they had already purchased chairs using personal resources. He encouraged them to continue collaborating and investing in sustainable projects. Mbiuki remarked, “I will continue supporting this newly established CBO, but it is important that the group has a clear vision and development plan. Some welfare groups rely entirely on politicians for funding without well-defined objectives. Remain united, support your local leaders, and avoid internal wrangles that could weaken the welfare.”
Mbiuki also urged the residents to avoid divisive politics, stressing the importance of unity among the three constituencies in Tharaka Nithi County for equitable development. He stated, “No part of the county should be sidelined because every constituency is important and deserves equal development.”
Additionally, Mbiuki announced that if elected Governor in the 2027 General Election, he would revive beneficial farming programs, including the distribution of free fertilizer and maize seeds, and complete stalled development projects to enhance agricultural production.
The legislator further pledged to construct an office for the Kirumi sub-location Assistant Chief at Miriingi, near the cattle dip, on land selected by residents as the most central and accessible location for the community.
Residents expressed appreciation for the donations and development commitments, voicing optimism that the support would strengthen the welfare group and improve service delivery in the area.
