Lumakanda-Manyonyi Road Upgraded To Bitumen Standards

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa on Thursday launched the upgrading of Lumakanda-Manyonyi road in Lugari Sub County to bitumen standards.

Speaking during the launch at Lumakanda, Barasa said the 8 kilometre road linking Lumakanda and Lugari ward once complete will enhance connectivity and spur economic growth in the two wards.

Barasa reiterated that his administration is focused on improving the county’s road network as promised last year during the electioneering period.

‘As we launch construction of this road and several others across the county I want to assure Kakamega residents that plans are underway to ensure each of the 60 wards gets a tarmacked road,’ he said.

The first time governor said the contractor has committed to complete the construction works of the road within the next two years.

He further said his administration is determined to initiate sustainable projects in every corner of the county for the benefit of residents.

Area Ward Representative Bernard Bokanda lauded the Governor for the road project saying it will be a game changer for the two neighbouring wards whose major activity is farming.

He noted that the upgrade will ease movement and improve access to markets and health facilities.

Residents who attended the launch thanked the governor for keeping his campaign promise noting that a better road network is a basis for socio-economic development and improved livelihoods.

A section of boda-boda riders who have been operating along the road called for speedy completion to save them from the high costs of servicing their motorcycles occasioned by poor roads.
