Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has termed the move by the office of the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in convening a leaders’ forum on curbing cattle rustling menace in the Kerio valley region “a step in the right direction.”
Speaking in Nairobi after attending the meeting chaired by Gachagua and attended by leaders from West Pokot, Baringo, Samburu, Laikipia, and Elgeyo Marakwet, Lomorukai said that the Government was finally taking the driver’s seat in curbing the menace that has claimed so many lives.
According to Lomorukai, the meeting, being the very first of its kind by the current administration also resolved to explore and eventually implement proposals that would guarantee security to the residents of the volatile areas.
The meeting comes barely a week after communities in Turkana East and Turkana South suffered yet another bandit attack that reportedly left more than eleven dead including eight security personnel.
Members of parliament, security agencies and community leaders from the six counties attended the meeting.
