Nairobi: The fourth leg of Betika BingwaFest Season Two is currently unfolding in the Nairobi Region, culminating on Sunday, November 23, at the Nyayo Stadium. Teams and individuals are vying for a share of the Sh17-million prize in disciplines including football, rugby, basketball, and athletics.

According to Kenya News Agency, Leads United and Embakasi South Ladies are defending their regional titles from last year’s edition. Leads United, the national champions, are especially keen to replicate their previous successes. The football preliminaries began on Monday at various venues across Nairobi, with Men’s Pool A games at Kariobangi North Grounds, Pool B at Calvary grounds in Kayole, and Pools C and D at BP grounds in Kawangware. Meanwhile, Women’s Pool A and B matches are held at Kariobangi North and Calvary grounds respectively, with Pools C and D at Ligi Ndogo grounds. The finals for both men and women will take place at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

Rugby matches will occur at Impala Grounds on Thursday and Friday, followed by a rest day on Saturday. The finals will be held at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday. Basketball games are scheduled at Vikapu Basketball on 209 State House Road on Friday and Saturday, before concluding at the Nyayo Stadium Gymnasium on Sunday. Athletics will be featured on Saturday at the Kasarani Annex, with over 650 athletes competing for podium spots and a portion of the Sh6 million prize in various track events. Defending champion Purity Chepkirui aims to retain her women’s 1,500 m title as part of her preparation for the upcoming World Athletics Cross Country Championships.

Eric Mwiti, Betika Head of Brand, commented on the event, stating that after successful legs in Rift Valley, Nyanza, and Eastern regions, the focus is now on Nairobi for a vibrant week of sports. The matches are strategically located across the city to engage various communities, culminating in the finals at Nyayo Stadium, which Mwiti described as an ideal venue for both players and fans.

The second season of this multidisciplinary sports festival began in August, with previous events in Nakuru for the Rift Valley Region, Siaya County for the Nyanza Region, and Machakos County for the Eastern Region.

First runners-up in football and rugby will earn Sh500,000, with second runners-up getting Sh250,000. In basketball, second and third place finishers will receive Sh250,000 and Sh100,000, respectively.

In athletics, gold medallists in the 10,000m will collect Sh300,000, with subsequent prizes for runners-up down to fifth place. The 5,000m winners will receive Sh250,000, with a descending scale for the top five finishers. Prize money for the 100m, 400m, 800m, and 1,500m events will mirror this structure, rewarding top finishers accordingly.

Additionally, a free medical camp will operate over the weekend, offering general and specialist consultation services, along with laboratory and pharmacy services.
